Davie Purchases Finland’s Helsinki Shipyard Oy

Canada’s largest shipbuilder, Davie Shipbuilding, has acquired Finland’s Helsinki Shipyard Oy, the world’s leading builder of icebreakers and ice-class ships. While both shipyards will remain separate legal entities, the business headquarters will be based in Québec. This past April, Davie reached a deal with the Canadian government to construct icebreakers for the Canadian Coast Guard and ferries for Transport Canada.

The acquisition combines the skills, experience and capabilities of two leaders in Arctic shipbuilding and other high-value products. The transaction will create opportunities for employees, encourage collaboration, facilitate the transfer of know-how, provide access to resources and stimulate export potential.
