Construction of Hulls 11 and 12 is expected to begin later this year at Great Lakes Shipyard. The first tug is scheduled for delivery in late 2027, with the second expected in early 2028. 

The vessels will be constructed, outfitted and commissioned at the Cleveland shipyard, as were the 10 Damen tugs already in service with the company. 

“The Great Lakes have been our home for more than a century, and this order reflects our confidence in the future of commercial shipping throughout the region and our commitment to the customers who depend upon us,” Great Lakes Towing President Gregg Thauvette said. 

Thauvette said continued fleet renewal is important to maintaining harbor towing service and preparing the company to meet customer needs. 

Tom Rigolo, president of Great Lakes Shipyard, said the experience gained from building the first 10 Damen tugs will be applied to the next two vessels. 

“Building the first 10 Damen tugs gave our team valuable experience that we will carry into the construction of the next two vessels,” Rigolo said. 

The company said the project represents continued investment in its fleet, Great Lakes Shipyard and the employees who build, maintain and operate its vessels. 

The Great Lakes Towing Company has provided harbor towing and marine services throughout the Great Lakes since 1899. Great Lakes Shipyard provides new vessel construction, repair, maintenance and marine fabrication services from its Cleveland facility.
