Building Partnerships Between Great Lakes Ports and Shipyards
The agreement was signed July 31 during AGLPA’s 2026 Annual Conference in Chicago. The organizations said the partnership will focus on fleet renewal and construction of American-built vessels, port and shipyard infrastructure, workforce recruitment and training, and federal policies and investments affecting the Great Lakes maritime economy.
The voluntary, nonbinding agreement creates a standing mechanism for the groups to coordinate on shared priorities. It also allows for additional shipyards and maritime organizations to join with the approval of the original signatories.
