J.M. (Mike) McCoshen Sworn in as GLS Administrator
The GLS, an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation, was established by the federal government in 1954. The agency operates and maintains the U.S. portion of the St. Lawrence Seaway between Montréal and Lake Erie.
“I want to thank President Donald J. Trump for appointing me to this key position at the U.S. Department of Transportation,” said McCoshen. “I fully appreciate the importance of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway System, not only to international commerce and to our national transportation system, but also to advancing America’s maritime leadership and economic vitality.”
McCoshen, a native of Superior, Wisconsin, has more than 45 years of experience in maritime transportation and waterfront operations. He most recently served as president of McCoshen Logistics Solutions LLC, a consulting firm focused on bulk terminals and cargo logistics throughout the Great Lakes region. He worked for more than 20 years with Duluth’s Hallett Dock Company, eventually serving as president and chief operating officer. Prior to that, McCoshen worked at the BNSF taconite-loading facility in Superior.
McCoshen will serve as the 12th GLS administrator in the agency’s history, succeeding Adam Tindall-Schlicht, former Port of Milwaukee director.
