Ontario Shipyards Receives Training Funding

Ontario Shipyards, Inc. is receiving $10 million through Ontario’s Skills Development Fund (SDF) Training Stream to train existing and new workers for careers in the shipbuilding and repair sector. 

Ontario Shipyards will use the funding to deliver training, re-skilling and up-skilling programs for careers in the millwright, welding, electrical and painting trades at the company’s St. Catharines, Hamilton and Thunder Bay facilities.  

Courses will include shipbuilding, ship repair, shipyard orientation, and health and safety procedures, along with professional development, leadership training and mentoring to recruit and retain the next generation of workers.
